VideoSongs: "Pas Encore" and "Hail Mary" by Pomplamoose

A VideoSong is a new Medium with two rules:
  1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
  2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).
Here are two from Pomplamoose, a musical collaboration between Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn. I love them.

I had a friend tell me once that recording in the studio changes the way you listen to music. It's true, witnessing the layers interweave gives listening a new shade. You begin to notice things in music you never would have before. This kind of talent and creativity wakes me up. (Big dap to Paul McEnany for pointing this out.)

I tried tapping a glass while filling it with a straw. I don't recommend trying that with a carbonated beverage.

Over the years I've spent a fair amount of time in recording studio situations. I agree 100% that the experience completely alters how you listen to music. Most often when I hear any given song, I hear individual components, not the totality of the song.

Cool post, as always.

That is excellent. I remember a quote from Eric Clapton where he said in his early days, he and his bandmates would listen to music all of the time and over and over again, always trying to find every separate sound. That thought totally changed the way I listened. I began to hear some of my favorite music completely a-new.

Paul - Seriously.

Caleb - Warm milk works much better.

Bruce - The same thing has happened to me. Sometimes I love it, I think it helps me appreciate music. But sometimes I over analyze, and I wish I could nix it and just dig the tunes. What do you think?

Charlie - That is really cool. I'm going to take that idea for a spin during my next long drive.

Christin - Have you watched them yet? They'll make you happy.

Brent - I finally got to watch these. They're inspiring. I'm going to encourage Sam to let me tape all future recordings. Will you post them? You should come record something with us and we'll do the same thing. In conclusion, that girl can sing and she is cute.

Oh and also, we did something similar, but we weren't actually recording. The finished project may come out soon? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cl8kuQmYDyA
